10 Advantages of Owning an Electric Fireplace

When it comes to utility and ease of use, the electric fireplace is one of the best options on the home heating market. With plenty of advantages over traditional and gas-fired fireplaces the simple electronic fireplace has something to offer every household.

The largest of these is the time needed to get the thing working. With a traditional wood fireplace it can take up to 45 minutes to get wood to catch alight, and this ISN’T including the time taken to fetch the wood in the first place! With an electric fireplace, all you need to do is turn it on and voila! In a few minutes it will be throwing out as much heat as any wood-burning fire, with the added advantage of not filling your house with smoke.

They are also far more convenient to turn off than their wooden counterparts, as they are able to be turned off at the flick of a switch rather than having to ensure that every last ember has gone out before being able to leave it unattended. Some can also be fitted with a built-in thermostat, allowing them to be turned on and off automatically depending on the outside air temperature.

Electric fireplaces are very easy to install, with some models capable of being fitted in under an hour. Most come with easy-to-understand and easy-to-follow installation kits, and can be fitted without major modifications to the home.. They don’t take up as much space as traditional fireplaces, and don’t have quite as high a risk of damage to people or property.

The average electric fireplace is also more environmentally friendly than traditional gas and wood fireplaces as they require far less in the way of natural resources, and release much less waste carbon dioxide and other fumes into the atmosphere. As they draw energy from the grid they can’t be considered carbon-neutral, but their carbon footprint is still significantly less than other types of fires.

There is an aesthetic value to the electric fireplace as well. Though the flames may not be a replacement for a real roaring wood fire, they do have the advantage of being able to turn them on while the heating element is turned off, allowing for light and that fireside ambience on even the hottest days.

And finally, there’s the cost. Buying wood or gas can be ridiculously expensive if you can’t gather the wood for yourself. Electric fires, because they draw power from the grid, are much cheaper to buy and run.
